CyGEL™ Sets Zebrafish Screening Method
The thermo-reversible hydrogel mountant CyGEL™ (Biostatus Ltd., UK) offers a new, simplified method for the micro-injection of zebrafish embryos developed by scientists at the UCD Conway Institute, Dublin. Live embryos are placed in CyGEL, injected and then gently recovered into embryo medium. The ability to repeatedly set and liquefy CyGEL by raising or lowering the temperature allows orientation of any object and recovery with excellent viability. The sol/gel transition point for CyGEL is room temperature for user convenience and physiological benefit. For additional control, CyGEL accepts anaesthetics such as MS-222. CyGEL will allow new techniques in zebrafish and other higher organism research.
