Electron Microscopy Tools: Unrivalled performance for Today’s Challenging Problems

Pleasanton, CA, July 26, 2009 – Gatan, Inc. will introduce 4 new products for EM applications at the 2009 Microscopy and Microanalysis Meeting, July 26 – 30, in Richmond, Virginia. Come and visit us at M&M 2009 in booth 406 to see these exciting new products or contact your local Gatan Sales office.

GIF Quantum™

Redesigned from the ground up, the all new GIF Quantum™ series imaging filters represents Gatan’s 4th and most advanced generation of imaging filters. The GIF Quantum™ combines advanced dodecapole-based electron optics with a blazing fast CCD camera system to yield an imaging filter that defines the new standard in the capture of information-rich EELS and EFTEM data sets with maximum efficiency. With the post-column GIF Quantum™ design, there is no compromise between EFTEM and EELS performance.

An entirely new level of software acquisition and control has been developed for the GIF Quantum™. This new AutoFilter acquisition suite uses smart exposure control and automation enabled by a newly designed fast electrostatic shutter. This advanced feature allows optimized data sets to be acquired with a single mouse click. This automation allows researchers of all experience levels to easily acquire the data needed to help solve today’s most critical scientific and technological problems.

UltraScan 10000™XP

The UltraScan 10000 XP Large Format CCD camera is the newest member of Gatan’s UltraScan family of high performance CCD cameras. It has a 16 port readout using patented Multi-Scan® technology to deliver an unprecedented combination of resolution, speed, sensitivity and versatility.

With 10k x 10k pixel resolution (111M pixel) and 100% fill-factor, this new Model 990 TEM CCD camera uses Gatan’s next generation high-contrast resolution (HCR+™) technology to couple a newly-developed high-resolution scintillator to the largest CCD sensor ever manufactured. The 16 readout ports operating at 10MHz offer sub-1 second low-noise full-frame readout and live preview modes. The combination of large area, fine sampling, enhanced optics and scintillator provide the highest information content in a single low-dose TEM image yet achieved. Its high speed performance of greater than 10fps provides the highest information throughput in TEM imaging.

This new large format camera opens up extraordinary possibilities for applications such as cryoEM, neuroscience, materials, and diffraction while offering the best in versatility for multiple accelerating voltages (60-400kV) and readout modes.

MonoCL4

MonoCL4 is the next generation in the world-leading family of cathodoluminescence (CL) systems. It is available in 4 configurations to suit the widest range of applications and requirements. Important new features include: enhanced sensitivity for UV and IR wavelengths; ‘point and click’ selection of spectroscopy; imaging and mapping modes; short-,long- and band-pass imaging using optional filters; new DigitalMicrograph® software with an option for stage mapping. The MonoCL4 design continues to provide unrivalled sensitivity by maximizing light collection efficiency via direct optical coupling through a chamber-mounted monochromator to high efficiency detectors.

ALTO 1000

ALTO 1000 is an exciting new concept in cryo-SEM. Depending on the user’s applications and requirements, exactly the correct configuration of cryo-system can be specified, no more, no less. ALTO 1000 is a new, compact, easy to use cryo-system, designed to give optimum results with tungsten SEM and combined SEM-FIB microscopes at both high- and low-vacuum conditions. The guiding principles of the ALTO range have been followed: Unrivalled visibility and convenience in use, plus high performance due to excellent temperature control, anti-contamination, fracturing and coating facilities. Five versions of ALTO 1000 are available. ALTO 2500 continues as Gatan’s premium system for FE-SEM.
