Establishment of New Production Site for BCP Purposes in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture
Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation (TOKYO: 8036, Hitachi High-Tech) has decided to establish a new production site
in the city of Omuta (Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan). The purpose of the site is to ensure an uninterrupted stream of supplies
needed to maintain the operation of medical and biotechnology products at medical institutions and other locations in the
event of an emergency.
The Hitachi High-Tech Naka Division (Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture) develops, designs and manufactures primarily
semiconductor metrology & inspection equipment, electron microscopes, and clinical analyzer and biotechnology products.
This site manufactures products that command some of the world’s highest market shares. In Japan, these products are
manufactured only at a single location, namely the Naka Division.
Hitachi High-Tech sustained damage as a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake that struck in March 2011. Based on this
experience, the decision was made to transfer a portion of production of supplies needed to operate equipment such as
clinical chemistry and immunodiagnostic analyzers and DNA sequencers in the medical and biotechnology field, which are
among the core products manufactured at the Naka Division, to a new site. As a result, Hitachi High-Tech will commence
production of these supplies at two sites.
Going forward, Hitachi High-Tech will make preparations with the aim of starting operation of the new production site in
November 2012 and product shipments in early 2013.
Hitachi High-Tech Manufacturing & Service Corporation (Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture; President: Joji Honda), a
manufacturing subsidiary, will be responsible for production at the new site.
Hitachi High-Tech recognizes that ensuring a stable supply of medical and biotechnology products, where it commands a
large share of the global market, is one way of fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities. At the same time, Hitachi
High-Tech will continue taking various business risks into account in managing its business operations.
