Exum Instruments and Rave Scientific Forge Strategic Partnership for Scientific Advancement in Eastern US Market

Providing materials researchers and advanced battery developers with state-of-the-art innovations in mass spectrometry

DENVER, CO – Exum Instruments, manufacturer of instruments and software ecosystems that increase the speed of development and discovery, is excited to announce a strategic partnership with Rave Scientific, a leading U.S. distributor of scientific and industrial instruments. This collaboration combines Exum’s groundbreaking technology with Rave Scientific’s extensive distribution network, ensuring broad access for researchers, developers, and manufacturers to this innovative product.

The new mass spectrometer, named the MassboxTM, is the first instrument to deliver Laser Ablation Laser Ionization Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (LALI-TOF-MS), offering unmatched analytical prowess, ensuring thorough analysis of diverse solid samples, and accelerating discovery in research and product development.

Addressing the challenges associated with conventional instruments, this innovative material characterization solution is pivotal for general materials researchers and advanced battery developers. For materials researchers, the MassboxTM facilitates detailed characterization of novel materials at a broad scale, enabling the investigation of chemical composition, impurities, and failures with high accuracy. This capability accelerates the development of new materials with optimized properties for various applications. For battery developers, the Massbox’s ability to quantitatively measure lithium and other important elements spatially and in depth helps in understanding degradation mechanisms and improving battery performance and longevity. Overall, its rapid and detailed analytical output accelerates research and development cycles.

“Our mission at Exum is to rethink how we measure the world around us. The Massbox’s laser-based technique not only simplifies the analytical process compared to traditional mass spectrometry, but it also allows you to put your chemistry into context. Every laser spot gives you the entire periodic table, lithium to uranium, empowering users to understand how elements are distributed spatially and in depth,” says Exum Instruments CEO and CTO, Jeff Williams. “I am excited and proud for Rave Scientific to represent us on the east coast and help us grow across various research areas and different industrial market segments. Their reputation for representing innovative products and more importantly quality service and support were key factors in choosing them to carry our brand and our technology.”

Rave Scientific is equally enthusiastic about the collaboration. “Our goal at Rave Scientific is to offer our customers a wide variety of technological products of the highest quality. This means we are constantly evaluating the latest innovations coming into the market,” says Rave

Scientific’s Founder and President, Jeff Streger. “When we heard about the MassboxTM , we recognized its ability to fill important gaps in materials characterization, specifically with mapping and quantifying elements across the periodic table. We saw the immediate opportunity to take it to market, especially for materials science and advanced battery development.”

As part of the agreement, Rave Scientific will manage the sales, distribution, and account management for the MassboxTM in the eastern United States. This includes organizing product demonstrations, coordinating the installation, and ensuring users can fully leverage the capabilities of the new mass spectrometer.

Exum Instruments and Rave Scientific are already collaborating on a series of launch events to introduce the MassboxTM to the scientific community. These events will provide detailed insights into the features and applications of the new instrument, offering prospective users the opportunity to learn about its benefits directly from industry experts. The next event will take place at the Microscopy and Microanalysis 2024 Conference in Cleveland, Ohio, July 28 through August 1.
