Fluxion Biosciences Rounds Out Management Team With Seasoned Industry Veteran
Steve Smith, Ph.D., automated electrophysiology leader, to head up IonFlux sales and applications team
South San Francisco, California – Fluxion Biosciences, Inc. announced today that Steve Smith, Ph.D., has joined its management team as head of IonFlux sales and will lead sales and application efforts for the IonFlux automated patch clamp system. Steve brings to this role over 20 years of experience in the electrophysiology and drug discovery sectors. He was previously Director of Client Services at Chantest, a contract research organization which specializes in ion channels and electrophysiology. Prior to Chantest, Steve held positions as a drug discovery scientist at Lexicon Genetics and as manager of training and support at Axon/Molecular Devices, during the market introduction of the first automated patch clamp platform.
“Steve complements our existing management team by bringing a wealth of hands-on knowledge of electrophysiology workflows and needs at all stages of drug discovery,” said Jeff Jensen, CEO. “It’s great to see his enthusiasm for the IonFlux technology, and we’re excited to have him leading our efforts in commercialization of the system worldwide.”
“I’m excited to be a part of the IonFlux team” commented Steve Smith, Ph.D. on his new position. “This is a rare opportunity to join an innovative company and work at the forefront of commercialization of the next generation automated patch clamp instrument.”
The IonFlux system utilizes Fluxion’s innovative Well Plate Microfluidic™ technology to automate the patch clamp process. IonFlux is the first instrument using a ‘plate reader’ form factor for user-simplicity and seamless integration with liquid handling robots. The system is available in two configurations: the IonFlux 16 is similarly priced to conventional patch clamp rigs, making the system affordable for every lab; and the IonFlux HT, which performs 64 voltage-clamp recordings in parallel utilizing 384-well plates, and can generate more than 10,000 data points per day. Both systems include technology that improves experimental success rates and data consistency, making them ideal for the systematic study of ion channel function and compound efficacy.
