Forbes Names Illumina America’s Fastest-Growing Technology Company for Second Time

Illumina, Inc. (NASDAQ:ILMN) today announced that Forbes named it to the top of the 2009 list of 25 Fastest-Growing Technology Companies in the United States. This is the second time in the past three years that Forbes has ranked Illumina #1 on its list of rapidly growing technology companies. Illumina develops, manufactures, and markets a full range of next-generation life science technologies, allowing researchers to comprehensively study both human and non-human species for genetic variation and biological function.

“We are honored that Forbes has acknowledged Illumina’s significant growth accomplishments over the past five years,” said Jay T. Flatley, President and CEO of Illumina. “This success has been fueled by multiple groups: the growing Illumina community of researchers and collaborators who use our systems to drive breakthrough research, and our employees, who consistently demonstrate their dedication and passion for developing high-quality genetic research products.”

The Forbes 25 Fastest Growing Technology Company list focuses on sales growth, and requires a minimum of 10% annualized sales gains over the past five years, profitability over the past 12 months, and a Thomson IBES consensus earnings forecasts of at least 10% annualized earnings growth over the next three to five years. While Illumina’s annual revenues grew by 99% in 2007 the Company was excluded from the list because of non-cash charges related to its acquisition of Solexa Inc. that led to a net loss per share for the year.
