HOTONIS USA Announces MCP Line Optimized For TOF

PHOTONIS USA, a leading electro-optic manufacturer, introduces a new Microchannel plate product group, optimized for time-of-flight mass spectrometry measurements. The new line of products, called TruFlite, are designed to reduce two of the most common issues with instrument performance in time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry: ion arrival time and time jitter. The new product line will be showcased at the Pittcon 2010 show in Orlando, FL in March.

Microchannel plates (MCPs) are components used in the detection and amplification of charged particles and electro-magnetic radiation, and are commonly used in analytical instrumentation. Time of Flight (TOF) methods measure the travel time over a known distance to identify the unknown material. The TruFlite line optimizes surface flatness of the MCP and optimizes channel size and bias angle to improve the resolution over other MCPs on the market which are optimized for TOF applications.

A key component of the TruFlite MCP-TOF product line is PHOTONIS’ recently patented Mounting Pad™ technology. This patented process allows for the release of trapped gas, resulting in both low noise and a long-lasting MCP. The TruFlite™ line will be offered in both 18 mm and 25 mm active areas, and custom detector assemblies.
