Ireland’s BioTector Analytical Systems Engages U.S. Distributor and Nears Completion of U.S. R&D Trial

Company Poised for Growth in the U.S. Marketplace

CORK, Ireland, NEW YORK and WASHINGTON, March 16 — BioTector Analytical Systems Ltd., a leading provider of online liquid analyzers for environmental monitoring, process control, and waste minimization to Fortune 500 companies in multiple industry sectors, has appointed Ohio-based Ohmart/Vega Corp. as its exclusive U.S. distributor. In addition, the company is nearing completion of field trials to prove the viability of its online TOC analysis for monitoring of nutrient removal systems in municipal waste treatment plants. The trials are part of a nutrient removal upgrade at the Piscataway Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Accokeek, Maryland, which is owned and operated by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). WSSC is the eighth largest water and wastewater utility in the U.S. The engineer for the project is O’Brien & Gere, which has coordinated with WSSC to perform the field trials. O’Brien & Gere is designing the upgrade to include online analyzers and a supplemental carbon feed system with adequate flexibility to use a variety of carbon products. Both developments are expected to lead to significant growth opportunities for BioTector in the U.S. market.

The news coincides with events in New York City and Washington DC, hosted by Enterprise Ireland, the Government Agency responsible for driving leadership and growth for innovative Irish companies in international markets. The events are associated with a trade mission to the U.S. led by Ireland’s Prime Minister, Brian Cowen. BioTector executives and their U.S. guests will attend an event tomorrow in Washington DC.

“As our official U.S. distributor, Ohmart/Vega will offer U.S. companies access to an accurate, repeatable, low-maintenance online liquid analyzer that overcomes the limitations of traditional online analyzers through its patented self-cleaning technology,” said BioTector director and executive in charge of global technical support, David Horan. “On a similar note, if the trials at the Piscataway WWTP are successful, they should create a substantial opportunity for our online TOC analysis technology in the U.S. municipal wastewater market. We expect the current U.S. R&D trial to showcase the reductions in operating costs and increased operating efficiencies we have already demonstrated in European and Irish waste treatment plants.”

Horan added, “BioTector has established itself as a global leader in online liquid analyzers, and in our U.S. efforts we have partnered with other leaders. Ohmart/Vega Corp. is the inventor of the Industrial Nuclear Gauging system and the Loop-Powered Process Radar instrument. O’Brien & Gere is an employee-owned engineering company with 900 scientists, engineers, construction, and operations personnel located in 30 offices across the U.S. For more than six decades, the company has provided total water, environmental, capital and facilities solutions.”
