Knome and SeqWright to Offer Personal Genomics Services Through CLIA-Certified Laboratory
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.–Knome, a recognized pioneer in the personal genomics field, today announced that it will collaborate with SeqWright, a world-leader in custom genomic and molecular biology services, to offer its personal genome sequencing and analysis services through a CLIA-certified laboratory. CLIA, or Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, are quality standards developed by the federal government for clinical testing. SeqWright is CLIA certified and is licensed to process clinical samples throughout the majority of the United States, including California. SeqWright will process and sequence client samples using SOLiD and 454 platforms, while Knome will continue to perform all data analysis and interpretation services.
“The U.S. regulatory landscape is evolving rapidly,” said Jorge Conde, CEO of Knome. “We are delighted to be working with a company that is compliant with CLIA and Good Laboratory Practice requirements and has over 15 years of experience providing high-level genomic services to the research and medical communities. The ability to offer our services in partnership with a CLIA-certified laboratory represents another step forward in the industry.”
Knome currently provides two separate sequencing and analysis services for consumers — KnomeSELECTTM and KnomeCOMPLETETM. Launched last month and priced at $24,500 for individuals, or $19,500 per person for families, KnomeSELECT is the industry’s first comprehensive gene sequencing service. KnomeSELECT enables consumers to obtain the sequence of their genes as well as a customized analysis of the results, bringing the retail cost of sequencing and analysis to under $1 per gene. KnomeCOMPLETE, the company’s flagship complete genome sequencing service is the most comprehensive analysis of trait and disease associations available on the market.
“As the first company to offer personal genome sequencing services, Knome has been a pioneer in this rapidly emerging industry,” stated Fei Lu, M.D., CEO of SeqWright. “It is amazing to witness how far the research and technologies have advanced and we are excited to be working with the leaders in the consumer genomics field.”
