LabArchives, the leading provider of cloud-based Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs), released Lab Builder, a curated library of lab course content.

Built upon the LabArchives notebook platform, Lab Builder is now available for all instructors using LabArchives Classroom Edition.

LabArchives empowers instructors to build courses with more efficiency. For years, instructors have been using the LabArchives interactive lab notebook and course management tools to distribute lab manuals and reference material necessary to teach lab courses. With the addition of the Lab Builder library, now instructors can choose to use proven lab content sourced from other professors teaching laboratory science.

The content within the Lab Builder library is flexible, curated, organized and easy to modify. Content types include lab manuals, instructor resources, assignments and projects in a variety of subjects. All content is structured and standardized which enables instructors to arrange, customize and add content to their course with ease.

Lab Builder includes 190 labs, protocols and course-packs for instructors to incorporate into their courses. The initial release includes course content for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. An additional 200 labs will be released in the next few months with more releases to follow in 2020.

LabArchives Resident Professor Natalie Stringer, Ph.D., worked with current professors to design and build the first course-pack within Lab Builder: the Molecular Biology Course-Pack.

Course-packs are all-in-one packages for course instruction. They include access to LabArchives, relevant software (genetic modeling, chemical drawing, instrumentation) and instructional content such as labs, assignments and projects that utilize key techniques and computational tools.

Dr. Stringer noted, “This content is a starting point for creating a great course that fits instructor needs and saves them a lot of time. These labs have been used for many semesters and the kinks have been worked out. Because the content is in LabArchives, it is easy to customize it to fit different classrooms and equipment.”

Every item has been reviewed and structured in accordance with the LabArchives editorial standards. All content included in Lab Builder is categorized in multiple ways for efficient course development.
