Employees Volunteer More Than 12,000 Hours for Local Communities

CARLSBAD, Calif.–Nearly 3,000 employees at Life Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: LIFE – News), a provider of innovative life science solutions, today are donating a half day of their time to more than a hundred projects around the globe. It’s part of the company’s sixth Annual Global Volunteer Day, the first since Invitrogen merged with Applied Biosystems in November 2008 to form Life Technologies. The company’s employees are donating more than 12,000 hours of total volunteer to activities in more than 30 countries and 50 communities.

On Global Volunteer Day, Life Technologies provides each of its employees with a half day of paid time to participate in volunteer projects. Some of the projects include:

Helping middle school students in East Palo Alto, California, create a vegetable garden

Painting, tree planting and building picnic tables for playgrounds at North County Community Services in San Diego County, California

Beautifying the grounds of The Science Factory in Eugene, Oregon

Clearing brush and picking up trash at the Niagara Falls Community Park in Grand Island, New York

Habitat for Humanity projects in Austin, Texas, and Durham, NC

International:

Painting, gardening and preparing cabins for campers at Camp Trillium Childhood Cancer Support Center in Ontario, Canada

Clearing beach litter with the National Environment Agency in Singapore

Cleaning up a park with the BDA Enterprise Culture Park in Beijing, China

Cleaning guide dogs’ kennels with the Japan Guide Dog Association Tokyo, Japan

Beautifying Cubbon Park to help attract visitors in Bangalore, India

Fundraising for World Vision Australia in Melbourne, Australia, to provide needed supplies to impoverished families

Removing tree shelters at Boden Boo Community Woodland in Scotland; tree shelters protect young trees from damage from deer, but as trees grow, the shelters can strangle further growth

Renovating holiday houses with the Princess Beatrix Foundation for patients and their families in the Netherlands
