Mecmesin, based near Horsham, West Sussex, England, will join existing PPT portfolio company James Heal, which makes lab instruments and test materials for the textile industry. Mecmesin’s equipment is used in R&D and quality-control laboratories and manufacturing plants around the world to assess and ensure the quality of raw materials, components and finished products. Industries using Mecmesin’s products range from pharmaceuticals and consumer-packaged goods—drug makers use Mecmesin’s equipment to test pill bottles, for example—to automotive, aerospace and construction.

Customers rely on the company’s affordable testing machines for a wide range of force- and torque- measurement applications, including tests involving tension, compression, torque, adhesion, flexure, coefficient of friction, crush and others. Many of Mecmesin’s products are built to withstand tough factory conditions, allowing customers to immediately test products on the factory floor, instead of using a more-expensive outside lab later.
