Michael S. Pettigrew Named Vice President of Sales for ESA’s Life Sciences Business

CHELMSFORD, Massachusetts (April 15, 2008) – ESA Biosciences, a Magellan Biosciences company and leader in novel HPLC systems that improve results for pharmaceutical development and QA/QC, life science, and analytical-chemistry customers worldwide, announced that Michael Pettigrew has joined the company as vice president of life sciences sales. Mr. Pettigrew comes to ESA from GE Healthcare Life Sciences, where he served for five years as vice president of sales for North America. “We’re pleased to welcome Mike Pettigrew to ESA,” said Magellan’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Robert J. Rosenthal, PhD. “Mike has a proven track record of accomplishments in life-sciences sales management. He is a strong communicator and motivator adept at leading cross-functional teams to deliver measurable results. His skill and experience in both global strategic account management and development and support of distribution and licensing partners will serve ESA well as we continue to address customers’ changing needs and meet our aggressive growth goals. I am confident that under Mike’s leadership, ESA will expand sales of the Corona® CAD® universal HPLC detector and Coulochem® and CoulArray® electrochemical systems into new applications, markets, and geographic regions.” In addition to managing a direct North American and UK sales force, Mr. Pettigrew will be responsible for overseeing the company’s life sciences distributors and OEM suppliers. Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Pettigrew said, “After less than one week on the job, I had the pleasure of meeting with many of ESA’s European customers and distributors at Analytica, in Germany, which allowed me to hear first-hand how ESA products and services are critical tools in life-science research. It was clear from these conversations that ESA has earned its reputation as a customer- and applications-focused company. I was excited to learn that many of the groundbreaking applications for ESA products had their origins in customer labs. That’s the best-possible scenario for any vice president of sales – when customers lead us in new directions for our technology, and are willing to share their insights and advances with us and with their peers. I look forward to meeting more customers around the world, and learning what other analytical challenges they need to solve.” At GE Healthcare Life Sciences, Mr. Pettigrew had P&L responsibility for a $200 million sales region, managing a sales portfolio of products for research and development and manufacturing customers across the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, as well as in academic and clinical-research laboratories. Previously, he was a vice president of business development, and then genomics marketing at Amersham Biosciences – a leading global provider of products and services used in gene, protein, and cell research, drug discovery and development, and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. (GE Healthcare acquired Amersham in 2004.) Prior to that, he served as executive director of commercial operations at Orchid Biosciences, a provider of products, services, and technologies for SNP scoring and genetic diversity analyses, and as Pharmacia Biotech’s director of marketing for North America. Mr. Pettigrew holds a bachelor of science from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, New Jersey.
