NABsys Appoints Leroy Hood to Board of Directors

DNA sequencing company adds prominent life sciences innovator and entrepreneur to its leadership team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – NABsys Inc., the pioneer in electronic, solid-state, single-molecule DNA sequencing, announced today that it has appointed Leroy (Lee) Hood, M.D., Ph.D., co-founder and president, Institute for Systems Biology, to its board of directors.

During his career, Dr. Hood has helped launch numerous life sciences companies, including Amgen and Applied Biosystems. He is also credited with the co-development of several innovative platforms that apply engineering principles to life sciences, such as the automated DNA sequencer, the automated DNA synthesizer, the automated protein sequencer, and the automated protein synthesizer.

“By combining positional electronic detection and hybridization, NABsys has created a platform that can provide the accuracy required for the elucidation of the genetic basis of complex disease and the use of that information in clinical care,” said Dr. Hood. “Additionally, by developing a platform that allows for single-molecule sequencing with detectors that can be made by standard semiconductor processing, NABsys can achieve the throughput, speed, and cost this problem requires.”
