Nanyang Polytechnic and Pall to groom talent for Singapore’s biologics industry
Singapore,– Pall Filtration Pte Ltd, the Asia-Pacific headquarters of Pall Corporation (NYSE: PLL), a global leader in filtration, separation and purification, will be collaborating with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) School of Chemical & Life Sciences (SCL) to develop talent for the rapidly growing biologics sector within Singapore’s S$13 billion pharmaceutical industry. The three-year collaboration encompasses student training, knowledge exchange with faculty as well as awards for outstanding students. The two partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the NYP today.
Students from NYP’s Diplomas in Chemical & Pharmaceutical Technology, and Biologics & Process Technology, will have the opportunity to attend workshops at Pall’s Life Sciences Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Science Park II. At the 430-square metre facility, they will receive hands-on training on Pall’s range of life sciences equipment, found in many major biomedical plants here and worldwide. There are also plans for active knowledge transfers between faculty and Pall’s professionals through collaborative workshops.
“Singapore’s biologics sector is poised to fill at least 500 new jobs in the next three years. The additional knowledge our students gain as a result of this collaboration puts them at a distinct advantage as they enter this knowledge-intensive field,” said Dr Joel Lee, Director for the School of Chemical & Life Sciences at NYP. Pall solutions are found in many major pharmaceutical plants globally, where these innovations play the critical role of delivering purity in the end product.
To support students’ efforts to excel in their field, Pall will also award outstanding students from the Diploma in Biologics & Process Technology – the only course in Singapore combining biological and chemical sciences with engineering concepts.
“We are excited to be collaborating with Nanyang Polytechnic on this important initiative,” says Eric Garnier, president, Pall Asia. “Students involved in the offered workshops will be introduced to the latest advances in filtration, separation and purification science and will gain valuable insight from Pall experts on how to tailor these solutions for real-world life sciences applications.”
