The New and Improved PEBBLE VIS Spectrometer for Ultra-Compact Instrumentation

Ibsen Photonics (ibsen.com), the global leader in fused silica transmission gratings and industrial grade spectrometer modules, today announced the release of an improved version of its ultra-compact PEBBLE VIS OEM spectrometer.

“During the past 12 months, numerous customers have tested our PEBBLE spectrometer and provided valuable feedback”, says Thomas Rasmussen, VP of Business Development, Sales and Marketing at Ibsen Photonics and continues, “we have listened to our customers and implemented several improvements such as a slightly changed wavelength range, an option for an SMA fiber adapter as well as a new miniature electronics board.”

The new PEBBLE VIS combines an ultra-compact form factor of only 20 mm x 15 mm x 8 mm with high resolution and sensitivity as well as environmental ruggedness. The wavelength range has been shifted towards the UV to cover 360 – 830 nm. The resolution of 6 nm is still one of the best for this size spectrometer on the market.

The pure transmission based optics inside PEBBLE ensures amazingly high sensitivity, low stray light, and thermal stability for such a small spectrometer. Furthermore, PEBBLE utilizes a fast and very sensitive CMOS detector array with 256 pixels. The electronics interface is a tiny flex-connector that fits on the new miniature DISB-105 read-out electronics.

PEBBLE VIS is based on the same proven diffraction grating technology used in all other Ibsen spectrometers. This ensures that PEBBLE can be manufactured in high quantities with very small unit-to-unit performance variation. With PEBBLE VIS, manufacturers of handheld and portable instruments for applications like fluorescence and color measurements no longer have to compromise on performance.

Prototypes of the final, improved PEBBLE VIS will be available in October 2020 and volume production units in Q1-2021.
