New mIRage-IR Microscope Brings Submicron IR Imaging to the FTIR-Class Instrument Category

Submicron IR Spectroscopy for Labs Considering FTIR or QCL-IR Microscope Systems.

Santa Barbara, Calif. – Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp., a pioneer in submicron infrared (IR) spectroscopy, announces the launch of the mIRage-IR, a reflection-mode microscope system delivering cutting-edge submicron IR spectroscopy and chemical imaging using proprietary Optical Photothermal IR (O-PTIR) technology — in a configuration that is competitive with traditional FTIR and QCL microscopes.

Designed for researchers who demand FTIR-like spectra with superior improved IR spatial resolution and greater sample flexibility, the mIRage-IR operates in non-contact, reflection mode, eliminating the need for ATR contact pressure, with spectra that are free of dispersive scattering artifacts while also providing compatibility with existing FTIR spectral libraries.

“With mIRage-IR, we’re offering scientists a smarter, faster way to collect high-resolution IR data in a form that’s easier to use and more flexible than traditional FTIR or QCL microscopes,” said Dean Dawson, Vice President of Marketing at Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp. “It’s the next step forward for any lab focused on particulates, microplastics, pharma powders, or contaminants.”

Simplified, High-Resolution IR — Without Contact ATR or Sample Prep issues

mIRage-IR leverages O-PTIR to deliver submicron spatial resolution, operating in easy-to-use, non-contact reflection mode, making it ideal for studying irregular, fragile, or difficult to handle samples. Spectra are free from scattering artifacts that often plague traditional FTIR and QCL reflection systems, while retaining full compatibility with standard FTIR/ATR libraries.

Researchers can use standard glass slides and non-coated filters such as polycarbonate and nitrocellulose for improved flexibility of applications and sample techniques.

Automated Particle Analysis with featurefindIR

The platform integrates with featurefindIR, a powerful tool that automates the detection, measurement, and chemical identification of particles ranging from submicron to millimeter scale. This automation streamlines analysis of microplastics, pharmaceutical powders, and failure analysis samples, overcoming the limitations of both traditional IR and Raman systems.

mIRage-IR supports a wide range of advanced materials and research areas, including:

  • Microplastics & environmental particulates
  • Micro-electronics failure analysis & contamination identification
  • Pharmaceutical powders & small molecules
  • Materials science, forensics & polymers
