New Release of Accelrys Electronic Lab Notebook Transforms Laboratory Operations

SAN DIEGO, — Accelrys, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACCL), a leading provider of scientific innovation lifecycle management software, has announced the latest release of the Accelrys Electronic Lab Notebook (AELN), which now offers extensive integration with the unifying, scientifically aware Accelrys Enterprise Platform (AEP). Expanded integration with AEP supports the management and orchestration of information, data, people, tasks and processes within and across labs, enhancing collaboration, externalization, chemistry harmonization, instrument integration, experiment design and reporting.

“LEO Pharma is using the Accelrys Lab Notebook to support execution and documentation of medicinal chemistry experiments,

both single-compound and parallel synthesis,” said Dr. Ulrik de Lichtenberg, head of research informatics and data

management at LEO Pharma. “We have extended the functionality of the core ELN product by leveraging the Accelrys

Enterprise Platform to create an electronic process exactly matched to our scientific workflows. The ELN platform has

strengthened our internal knowledge sharing, and at the same time provided us with a seamless process for capturing

documentation needed to obtain and defend patents.”

As a key application within the Accelrys Process Management and Compliance Suite of software products, the latest release of the Accelrys Electronic Lab Notebook also offers significant synthetic chemistry enhancements and full integration of interactive Pipeline Pilot scientific authoring protocols that speed data access, review and analysis for medicinal, analytical, formulations and process scientists using the notebook.

The AEP provides a broad, secure foundation supporting tighter integration of the latest notebook release with other

applications within the Accelrys Process Management and Compliance Suite and with the platform’s extensive scientific

Component Collections. The integration with the Accelrys Enterprise Platform has been greatly expanded in this latest

notebook release, providing industry-leading data analysis and reporting capabilities that deliver improved experiment insight and productivity for virtually any scientific discipline with lower cost of ownership. For example, the platform speeds experiment design and analysis by enabling scientists to register chemical and biological entities directly within the AELN using the Accelrys Chemical Registration or Accelrys Biological Registration applications.

“The latest release of the Accelrys Electronic Lab Notebook moves beyond the paperless lab to a better

connected, more harmonized and compliant lab ecosystem extending from research to manufacturing,” said Ken Rapp, managing director of Accelrys’ analytical, development, quality and manufacturing solutions. “Improved handling of chemistry workflows in accordance with the way bench chemists actually perform their research speeds lab productivity, while automated Pipeline Pilot workflows within the Notebook accelerate product development in Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control.”

The latest release of the Accelrys Electronic Lab Notebook also offers significant enhancements to overall usability and

synthetic chemistry for medicinal, analytical, formulations and process scientists including:

? Improved parallel chemistry supporting medicinal chemists’ workflows with step-by-step enumeration on multi-step

reaction schemes and salt stripping from enumerated products

? Flexible, intuitive reaction scaling for both single-step and multiple-step reactions, requiring just two mouse clicks to visualize scaling impact

? Enhanced experiment cloning keeps experiments compliant with latest SOPs and templates, improving experiment

management and administration

? Better management of favorite materials and faster experiment design through easier access to commonly used

reagents and solvents
