Applikon Biotechnology collaborating with Emerson in OEM digital transformation program

Delft, The Netherlands: – Upstream bioprocess equipment specialist Applikon Biotechnology B.V. (Applikon) has joined a strategic program spearheaded by automation technology leader Emerson designed to accelerate life sciences solutions delivery.
Emerson’s DeltaV™ Life Sciences OEM Program focuses on structured collaboration between Emerson and OEMs such as Applikon aimed at accelerating tech transfer and simplifying integration of manufacturing systems, equipment and skids. This is expected to help life sciences companies bring therapies more quickly to market by making it easier to adopt digitally-enabled manufacturing that improves the quantity, quality and speed of production.

Pre-engineered solutions
The program is built on Emerson’s Engineered Solutions Provider (ESP) program and provides structured collaboration with life sciences original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Accordingly, Applikon is now working closely with Emerson to develop pre-engineered solutions. These pre-engineered solutions will simplify integration and data handling so that less work is required onsite and solutions can be deployed faster, reducing the risk of delaying project schedules or existing production.

Easier integration
Pharmaceutical and biotech companies are increasingly looking to adopt new digitally-enabled manufacturing approaches such as modular, continuous and paperless manufacturing. Easier integration of new equipment and skids into balance of plant systems and orchestration of data across a therapy’s lifecycle are both essential to adopting new digitally-enabled manufacturing approaches.
The modular automation solutions developed by Applikon as part of the Emerson program will make real-time quality control, integration and data management easier for pharmaceutical companies. These solutions will ultimately drive better outcomes for patients—particularly during outbreaks like COVID-19 where speed is critical and every link is vital to accelerating technology transfer and moving quickly from research to full manufacturing.

Bioreactor automation
Structured business engagement between Applikon and Emerson will allow the organizations to work seamlessly together to add value to end users. As part of the DeltaV Life Sciences OEM Program Applikon will develop pre-engineered solutions that integrate advanced laboratory and manufacturing skids with Emerson’s DeltaV automation system, a leading solution trusted by the world’s leading life sciences companies and that forms the basic platform for Applikon’s own bioreactor automation solutions.
Applikon’s V-Control solution, the DeltaV based solution for Applikon bioreactors, has been developed as part of this program. It offers end-users benefits such as an open DeltaV architecture, allowing for easy integration into existing DeltaV networks, global support, easy access to DeltaV upgrade and expansions. This will help pharmaceutical and biotech companies to accelerate their development programs.
