PerkinElmer Collaborates with Johnson & Johnson Innovation to Provide Resources and Expertise to JLABS @TMC in Houston

WHAT: PerkinElmer, Inc., a global leader focused on improving the health and safety of people and the environment, announced a collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Innovation to provide JLABS @ TMC in Houston, a newly-opened life science incubator located within Texas Medical Center’s new Innovation Institute, with instruments and lab services to address the research needs of resident startups. PerkinElmer will also provide on-site staff, training and scientific application support to the occupants ofJLABS @ TMC, which will accommodate up to 50 life sciences startups. This new lab builds on PerkinElmer’s similar collaboration launched in March 2015 at JLABS @ South San Francisco (JLABS @ SSF).

The collaboration will enable JLABS @ TMC residents to perform a variety of research and development activities using PerkinElmer’s advanced imaging and detection solutions for a wide range of life sciences, diagnostics and environmental health applications. These include: sample preparation, protein characterization, screening new drugs, performing assays for drug discovery, mass spectrometry analysis, next-generation sequencing, identifying adulterants and contaminants, and forensics testing.

HOW: This approach aligns with the JLABS model, which provides lab space, instrumentation and other resources, such as operational support, education and business services to emerging life science companies in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, and digital health spaces.

PerkinElmer’s OneSource® Laboratory Services team of certified engineers, laboratory information services personnel and scientific staff will also provide on-site expertise and knowledge to assist the companies with their scientific processes. These services, which help reduce lab complexities and increase efficiencies, include: information services, validation services to help meet regulatory requirements, scientific services, lab relocation services and asset services, including asset management for multivendor instrument service and repair.
