Pharma-Test: L-MDS-600 Dissolution Media Addition System

The L-MDS-600 media addition system is an upgrade to a Pharma Test PTWS 820D tablet dissolution testing instrument. It is used to automatically add 250ml of medium to the dissolution vessels inside the PTWS 820D within a maximum of 20 seconds at a programmable point in time. The programming is done using the WinDiss ARGUS dissolution software. The system was developed together with and based on the requirements of a major pharmaceutical manufacturer.

The system has a seperate water bath with a dedicated temperature control system. The concentrated buffer solution is stored in an individual vessel for each vessel of the PTWS 820D Dissolution testing instrument. The temperature of the buffer solution is critical as 250ml of medium is added to each dissolution vessel and the temperature in the vessel should stay within the USP requirements during this process. The addition is done by gravity using switch-able valves and through a tubing connection to the vessels inside the PTWS 820D dissolution bath. The water bath is placed on a seperate rack in an elevated position behind the PTWS 820D instrument.

Optionally the system can be equipped with special PEEK tubing in case the product is not suited for the standard Teflon tubing, for example hormones.

The media addition process is performed for a number of samples, for example for delayed-release dosage forms or enteric-coated preparations. In many cases today the media addition step is performed manually. By using the L-MDS-600 system, the user not only saves time as the process can be run unobserved but also increases the reproducibility of his results. L-MDS-600 ensures that for each cycle the same volume of media is added and that the temperature stays within USP requirements.
