Enhanced sensitivity enables researchers to measure lower levels of active Proteinase 3

ProAxsis, a commercial protease biomarker-led research company supporting drug development and clinical research through specialist biomarker insights, announces the release of an updated version of their ProteaseTag® Active Proteinase 3 Immunoassay (PA008-RUO).

The updated product is a single-use, research use only immunoassay for the quantitative measurement of active human proteinase 3 (Pr3) in sputum (sol) samples within a basic or pharmaceutical research setting.

Proteinase 3 is an enzyme found primarily in neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that helps the body fight infection; however, excessive Proteinase 3 activity in the lungs can damage airway tissue and contribute to inflammation.

The launch follows the release last year of the updated ProteaseTag® Active Neutrophil Elastase Immunoassay (PA001-RUO). Both assays now offer enhanced sensitivity, allowing for the measurement of lower levels of active neutrophil elastase (NE) and Pr3 compared to the previous versions, facilitating potentially larger data sets in research and clinical trials.

Work is also under way to update the ProteaseTag® Active Cathepsin G Immunoassay (PA009-RUO), which is expected to be released towards the end of the year.

Together, these assays form part of ProAxsis’ portfolio of active protease biomarker products. This portfolio includes NEATstik®, a rapid qualitative test for active NE, alongside quantitative ProteaseTag® immunoassays targeting active NE, Pr3 and Cathepsin G (Cat G).

NE, Pr3 and Cat G are important biomarkers associated with inflammation and infection and are of particular interest in respiratory research and drug development.
