Remedy Informatics Welcomes Dr. Scott Howard as New Chief Medical Officer

SALT LAKE CITY –– Remedy Informatics, the leading provider of registry-based clinical informatics software for healthcare delivery and life sciences research, announced today that Scott C. Howard, MD, MSc, will join the company’s executive team as Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Dr. Howard comes to Remedy from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital where he was a professor and Director of Clinical Trials for St. Jude’s International Outreach Program. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is an internationally recognized leader in research and treatment for children with cancer.

At St. Jude, Dr. Howard directed the development of the online, multilingual Pediatric Oncology Network Database (www.POND4Kids.org) that facilitates outcome assessment and cancer care improvement in more than 200 centers in 60 countries worldwide. Since 1998, Dr. Howard has worked with pediatric oncology professionals in 87 nations to improve outcomes for children with cancer in low- and middle-income countries. He served as St. Jude’s Medical Information Officer from 2009 to 2011 to oversee several key informatics projects, including: the transition to an all-electronic medical record; the implementation of computerized provider order entry (CPOE) for all medications, including complex chemotherapy regimens; and the development and deployment of an electronic chemotherapy roadmap for children with cancer. Throughout his time at St. Jude, Dr. Howard consistently demonstrated his passion to convert patient information into tools that drive improvements in healthcare.

“As the demand for our products continues to fuel explosive growth, it is important that we have the right people in place to maintain this trajectory,” said Gary Kennedy, Founder and CEO of Remedy Informatics. “Over the course of his career Scott has demonstrated a keen understanding of the role of technology innovations in accelerating discoveries and developing new and more effective treatments in healthcare, and he will be a key asset for us moving forward. We are excited to add Scott to our executive team as we work to tangibly, measurably and permanently transform life sciences research and healthcare delivery around the world.”

Dr. Howard is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Hematology/Oncology and is a member of numerous societies, including the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Also on the oncology front, Remedy Informatics was recently selected by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) to provide the new technology platform for its Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®). ASCO’s goal is to implement a more flexible system that will allow its staff to update the system and conduct routine changes as needed. With the new Remedy-engineered registry system in place, participating practices will be able to report data from a variety of sources, including direct entry and EHRs, into the QOPI system and receive feedback on the program’s quality measures and their progress in improving cancer care.
