Smiths Detection Buys Cyrano Sciences

Chicago, IL—Smiths Detection has acquired chemical sensor maker Cyrano Sciences for $15 million in cash and an earn out dependent on future sales. Cyrano makes the handheld Cyranose 320 electronic nose for on-site analysis for industrial, food, chemical and homeland security applications. Its revenues total $4 million. Smiths Group Chief Executive Keith Butler-Wheelhouse commented, “Having built Smiths Detection into a world-leading business in a growth market, it is important that we maintain the momentum by broadening the technology base.” Cyrano Sciences will be renamed Smiths Detection—Pasadena, Inc.
