SPECTRO Analytical Instruments Joins Abaco Systems and AMETEK Sensors and Fluid Management Systems at State-of-the-Art Facility in Wilmington, Mass.

Wilmington, Massachusetts — AMETEK is celebrating the move of SPECTRO Analytical Instruments to a state-of-the-art facility in Wilmington, Mass. The location is already the U.S. home of Abaco Systems and AMETEK Sensors and Fluid Management Systems (SFMS).

“Locating the three business units in one center of excellence represents AMETEK’s continuing investments in innovation and service for our U.S. customers,” said Michael Privik, SPECTRO Business Unit Manager. “The move brings exciting new opportunities for laboratory and technology expertise, customer interaction and service, application testing and development, and technology demonstrations.”

AMETEK Sensors and Fluid Management Systems delivers accurate, rugged, and reliable sensors for the commercial aerospace, military, aero-derivative and industrial markets. Abaco Systems is a leading developer of next-generation embedded computing solutions for defense and industry. SPECTRO Analytical Instruments is a leading supplier of analytical instruments for the elemental analysis of materials in industry, research, and academia.

“The three signs in our lobby symbolize the synergies of our range of products and services. The whole is truly greater than the sum,” said Elaine O’Neill, SFMS Business Unit Manager. “We have extensive environmental test capabilities, innovative laboratory analysis capabilities, leading-edge manufacturing expertise, and industry-leading expertise in complex assemblies and applications across virtually every industry.”

For SPECTRO, the Wilmington facility provides a more modern and expansive laboratory and solutions center for its U.S. operations. “Here, nearly our entire portfolio of equipment is on hand for application testing, development, and customer demonstrations — from ICP-OES, ED-XRF, and HH-XRF to mobile and stationary metal analyzers,” Privik said.

“In Wilmington, customers can provide samples and troubleshoot challenging applications, and interested prospects can test-drive our equipment for themselves. Although we have extensive interactive communications capabilities to reach in real-time worldwide, there’s nothing more productive than bringing a customer and our solution engineers together in the lab,” said Joachim Raber, Director, Sales, Service & Marketing North America, SPECTRO Analytical Instruments Inc.

Raber added that the Wilmington location, itself, is advantageous. The business unit can draw upon a vast network of scientific talent from around the Greater Boston technology hub. The site also provides easy accessibility from Logan Airport in Boston and Manchester–Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire to serve customers throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Recently, some 100 AMETEK employees and guests attended a ceremony to celebrate the new facility, enjoyed a barbecue, and toured the three business units. The event included a ribbon cutting with Keith Reazin, Abaco/PDS Division Vice President and GM; Eleanor Lukens, Aerospace and Defense Vice President and GM; and Elaine O’Neill and Michael Privik.

O’Neill said one immediate result of the celebration was the direct realization of everyone on the tour of the possibilities and solutions that the three business units are on the way to delivering for the benefit of their customers and industries.
