SRU Biosystems Announces Introduction of BIND® 384/1536 TURBO Reader Using Label-free Technology

The First 1536-well Label-free System for uHTS —

WOBURN, Mass.–SRU Biosystems today announced the introduction of its newest generation of microplate readers based on its proprietary label-free detection technology, the BIND® 96/384 TURBO Reader for 96- and 384-well microplates and the BIND® 384/1536 TURBO Reader for ultra-high throughput screening using 384- or 1536-well microplates. The latter product is the first on the market capable of label-free detection in a 1536-well microplate format. The TURBO BIND® Readers are being offered with customizable automation integration and are highly adaptable to customers’ automated systems. Details of the advancements will be presented at the upcoming Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) meeting in St. Louis, April 6 – 10 (www.sbsonline.org/conference/).

“SRU has been highly focused on providing an advanced solution for label-free technology that offers improved sensitivity, high capacity, low reagent consumption, speed, and automation adaptability,” said Richard Wagner, Ph.D., President and CEO. “The BIND® TURBO Readers offer that solution.”

Dr. Wagner continued, “Our recent breakthrough with the BIND® TURBO Readers reiterates our leadership position in label-free technology. Here, we have developed 1536-well biosensors along with a significant advancement to our BIND® Reader, which allows the plates to be read in an ultra-fast, TURBO mode at greater than 400,000 wells in an 8 hour period. Furthermore, we have integrated the 1536 Reader with our new automation integration platform, which is a highly customizable setup that utilizes customers’ workstations together with our easy-to-use software package. One of the most exciting applications for the 1536 system will be for cell-based assays, and in particular for screening compounds against endogenous receptors with normal primary cells, where there are significant limits on the number of cells one can obtain for a screen. Our 384-well system typically uses 10 thousand to 20 thousand cells per well, whereas the 1536-well biosensor uses less than one quarter that number of cells. Through these advancements, we provide the most flexible, cost-effective, and highest throughput system available.”

The Company has developed a comprehensive product line for label-free cell-based and biochemical applications, including advanced software tools, automation integration, and proprietary attachment coatings for cells and proteins. The BIND® system supports the use of 96-, 384-, and 1536-well microplates using the Company’s patented optical biosensor technology in a user-defined manual, semi-automated or fully automated environment for kinetic or endpoint assays. The BIND® 96/384 TURBO Reader supports either 96 or 384 microplates, and the recently developed BIND® 384/1536 TURBO Reader is capable of analyzing 384 or 1536 microplates. Please see the Company’s website for upcoming product demonstrations and tutorials.
