Striking Development Releases Accelerated Paracel Blast Plug-in for CLC bio’s Platform
AARHUS, Denmark & HOWELL, Michigan – Today, CLC bio and Striking Development announced the release of the highly accelerated Paracel BLAST plug-in for integration into CLC bio’s enterprise platform: CLC Genomics Server.
Director of Consulting Solutions at CLC bio, Dr. Jannick D. Bendtsen, states, “With the increased amount of data generated in laboratories around the world, basic BLAST searches are becoming a significant bottleneck in research. Paracel BLAST is able to utilize hundreds or even thousands of nodes in a computer cluster, and thus can accelerate research significantly compared to NCBI BLAST.”
President and Founder of Striking Development, Michael D. Curtin, states, “Together with CLC bio, we have developed a middle layer between CLC Genomics Server and Paracel BLAST, which enables researchers to start very large BLAST searches from CLC Genomics Workbench through the Genomics Server without any technical knowledge about using command-lines and scripts.”
Striking Development has used high-performance parallel computing to split large, complex tasks across multiple processors. Paracel BLAST is the only commercially-supported BLAST solution for parallel computing. Paracel recoded the original NCBI BLAST source code from the ground up, eliminating important performance bottlenecks and optimizing it for use on parallel platforms.
The release agreement allows CLC bio to offer the Paracel BLAST plug-in directly to customers. In line with CLC bio’s strategy, multiple 3rd party developers are now offering their specialized algorithms on CLC bio’s platform, to the benefit of the large user community.
