Syagen Sells 1,000th PhotoMate(R) APPI Source

TUSTIN, Calif.,– Syagen Technology Inc., an analytical instrumentation company, has announced the sale of its 1,000th PhotoMate(R) atmospheric pressure photoionization (APPI(R)) source. PhotoMate is available on nearly every liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) system and is sold directly through Agilent, Bruker, Thermo Electron, Waters, and Shimadzu. Syagen is the technology and market leader in photoionization mass spectrometry with nearly a dozen patents issued or pending.

APPI is an important complement to electrospray ionization (ESI) and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) by expanding the range and classes of compounds that can be analyzed, including nonpolar molecules that are not easily ionized by ESI or APCI, and by exhibiting less ion suppression than these other sources. Sensitivity is also excellent over a wide range of flow rates and signal is linear over typically five orders of magnitude. APPI is a rapidly growing method that has been the focus of several recent symposia at leading conferences and tradeshows.
