Thermo Fisher Scientific Acquires Oryx Instruments to Enhance ESD Test System Capabilities (March 14 2007)

LOWELL, Mass., (March 14, 2007) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced that it has acquired Oryx Instruments Corporation of Fremont, California. Oryx is a leading manufacturer of ESD (electrostatic discharge), Latch-up, CDM (charged device model) and TLP (transmission line pulse) systems for the semiconductor market worldwide. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“With the acquisition of Oryx, Thermo Fisher further strengthens its leadership in providing test systems and simulators designed to ensure that electronic products meet ESD and EMC standards,” said Ken Berger, president of process instruments for Thermo Fisher Scientific. “Our combined resources will enable us to accelerate development of new products, expand services and further augment our global customer support.”

Increased integration of functionality on single, smaller-geometry devices significantly increases the real risk of device failure due to ESD. Thermo Scientific KeyTek systems enable engineers and device designers to test for the potentially destructive effects of ESD, identify, and then harden sensitive structures prior to full-scale production, resulting in improved product quality and faster time-to-market cycles.
