Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces Portable New GC Leak Detector

Thermo Scientific GLD PRO detects and identifies gas leaks quickly and efficiently

MILFORD, MA., (14 July 2009) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, has introduced the Thermo Scientific GLD PRO Leak Detector to identify gas leaks precisely and quickly. This ergonomically designed, hand-held electronic device is a highly sensitive instrument designed specifically for use with gas chromatography (GC) systems and their accessories, such as purge and trap systems. This easy-to-use compact unit provides fast, contamination-free, leak detection, and offers a much more reliable and convenient method than liquid leak detectors, which can contaminate the column and cause permanent damage to the stationary phase. It is capable of detecting even the smallest gas leaks (<1 ml/min), and any leaks are indicated with both a LED light display and an audible alarm. Therefore, the Thermo Scientific GLD PRO Leak Detector is ideal for checking valves, fittings, and traps for leaks after maintenance, preventing damage to columns and sensitive detectors, improving analytical performance and minimizing troubleshooting. The Thermo Scientific GLD PRO leak detector employs dual thermistor technology, which then measures the ratio of the concentration of the probe and reference heat exchange values and displays the results on a LED display. The instrument’s thin pencil-tip probe is designed to reach difficult and confined locations to pinpoint the exact problem location, as gas leaks from sealed components or systems can be subtle and difficult to isolate without proper equipment. If leaks remain undetected they can cause detector noise and baseline instability, shorten column life and waste expensive carrier gas. In addition, the hand-held unit offers side grips for added durability and one-handed operation, and is available with a convenient carrying and storage case.
