Thermo Fisher Scientific Offers Comprehensive Rheological Solution for the Petrochemical Industry

Petrochemical Process and Product Optimization – from crude oil drilling to refinement

KARLSRUHE, Germany (December 10, 2008) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced a comprehensive rheology portfolio for the petrochemical industry that enables analyses of crude oil through refined products, such as bitumen. The company also offers a wide range of accessories for its Thermo Scientific rheometers so customers can, for example, simulate conveyance conditions in pipelines. A variety of pressure sensor systems, for pressures up to 400 bar and temperatures to 300°C, is available, as well as a highly chemical-resistant Hastelloy® version.

The RheoScope module for the Thermo Scientific HAAKE MARS rheometer platform enables simultaneous measurements of rheological characteristics and structural formations. This capability allows users to learn more about crystal growth in crude oil, also known as “waxing,” to help them optimize the flow of crude oil through pipelines.

The application-oriented measuring cells and geometries enable petrochemical engineers to measure the rheological properties of bitumen or perform tribological tests on oil and lubricants. Detailed information on tailor-made accessories offered by the company is available at www.thermo.com/mc.

Thermo Fisher Scientific successfully supports a wide range of industries with its comprehensive Thermo Scientific material characterization solutions. These products analyze and measure viscosity, elasticity, processability and temperature-related mechanical changes of plastics, food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and coatings, plus a wide variety of liquids or solids.
