Waltham, MA 10/2/03, Bristol, UK 10/3/03 and Charlotte, NC 10/14/03—In a series of

announcements, Thermo Electron has sold two product lines and acquired one.

Thermo Electron has agreed to purchase the Electronic Personal Dosimetry (EPD)

business of Seimens plc for approximately $4.5 million in cash subject to postclosing

adjustments. 2003 revenues for the business are estimated at $10 million.

It will join Thermo’s Radiation Measurement & Protection product lines, part of the

Environmental Instruments division of the Measurement and Control unit. Ling

Dynamic Systems, an SPX company, has purchased Thermo’s test and measurement

business, which sells data acquisition systems used in the measurement of

physical parameters, such as oscilloscopes, power surge instruments and date

recording instruments. The product lines, most of which were sold under the

Nicolet name, have annual revenues of more than $25 million.
