Understand the Impact of Nutrients with Long-term In-situ Nitrate Monitoring from YSI

YELLOW SPRINGS, OH, — YSI Environmental offers the YSI 9600 Nitrate Monitor, a leading-edge instrument for continuous monitoring of nitrate levels in water. The 9600 is the first in a series of nutrient monitors from YSI. Instruments such as the YSI 9600 will help professionals better understand the impacts of nutrients on their particular water resources. For example, the 9600 can monitor for watershed and total maximum daily load (TMDL) studies or impacted coastal environments; it can monitor downstream of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) or wastewater outfalls. The YSI 9600 continuously monitors nitrate levels at a user-selectable sample interval and thus provides greater capability to detect nutrient events than spot sampling activities. Testing by YSI and customer field data confirms long-term deployment periods of 30 days at one-hour sample intervals or 60 days at two-hour sample intervals. To accurately measure nitrate, the 9600 uses flow injection analysis technology combined with a chemical reaction sequence, defined in literature from both the US EPA methods and Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater (Method 4500-NO3-E). The instrument can be configured for freshwater or saltwater applications. Accuracy of field data is comparable to lab accuracy: · Freshwater: 0 to 6 mg/L — ±5% of reading or 0.2 mg/L, whichever is greater; 6 to 10 mg/L — ±10% of reading using 6 mg/L Nitrate-N standard. · Saltwater: ±5% or 0.02 mg/L, whichever is greater, using 1 mg/L Nitrate-N standard. Additionally, the system consumes fewer reagents than competitive systems The YSI 9600 Nitrate Monitor is a product of YSI Environmental, a strategic business unit of YSI Incorporated. YSI Environmental is dedicated to providing its customers with Pure Data for a Healthy Planet®. YSI Incorporated, an employee-owned company with world headquarters based here, is a leading provider of technology solutions and services for data collection and analysis.
