Cost-effective Tube-in-plate Reactor with replaceable tubing

Glass static mixer/reactor blocks with narrow internal channels are very effective flow reactors that, attributable to their large surface area, provide very efficient heat transfer.

However, they are challenging to manufacture and therefore tend to be quite expensive.
In addition, many users have concerns regarding blockage or cleaning of the channels.
To address these issues, Uniqsis are pleased to introduce a new Tube-in-plate reactor concept whereby narrow-bore, replaceable perfluoropolymer tubing is embedded in channels cut into an aluminium block. To help stabilise the internal temperature but retain visibility, the tubing is covered with a glass plate.
The glass cover-plate and tubing can be easily removed and the tubing replaced – should it become blocked or contaminated.
These TIP reactors offer a direct replacement for existing ‘LARGE format’ GSMs that are compatible with HotChip, ColdChip, PhotoChip and Polar Bear Plus GSM reactor modules.
A single layer LARGE format TIP reactor fabricated using 1/16″ has an internal volume of 9.5ml and can be used for both photochemistry and conventional thermally-mediated reactions.
In this way, Tube-in-plate Reactors provide a cost effective alternative, where static mixing is not a concern, that addresses many of the drawbacks of integrated glass GSMs.
