OKYO – Agilent employees and facilities were unaffected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, and Agilent in Japan is now operational. However, due to planned power outages by Tokyo Electric Power Company, Agilent’s Hachioji operations are fluctuating. The company is working on alternative processes to best serve its customers and cause the least amount of disruption to them. Due to the dynamic nature of the situation, Agilent’s analysis of the impact may be modified over time.

Manufacturing, Shipments and Deliveries

Delayed product deliveries in Japan are possible due to transportation issues and planned power outages. Although manufacturing and shipments of some products, which are manufactured in Japan, were interrupted for a few days after the earthquake, they have resumed. Agilent expects the overall impact on its supply chain to be small, but this is an evolving scenario. Further assessments on downstream suppliers are in progress. The company is working to inform customers who may experience delays.

Services and Support

Despite planned power outages, repair and calibration services for electronic equipment in Hachioji are operational. Agilent is providing customers devastated by the earthquake with free failure checkup services of box instruments, including pickup, checkup and quotation. However, extended time may be required to pick up customers’ instruments and return them due to domestic transportation issues. For electronic measurement systems, Agilent engineers will visit customers’ sites, providing those affected by the earthquake with priority repair service. For failure checkup and repair service of life science and chemical analysis products, customers can contact Agilent’s customer contact center or a sales representative.

Contributions to the Devastated Areas

Agilent has contributed $100,000 to the International Red Cross through the Agilent Technologies Foundation. In addition, the company is globally matching employees’ contributions, which currently total more than $98,000.

Agilent extends its deepest sympathy to those impacted by the Tohoku-Pacific earthquake, Nagano North earthquake, and all those affected in eastern Japan.
