Waters Empower™ Software Now Available for Shimadzu GC-2010 Plus and GC-2014 Gas Chromatography Systems

COLUMBIA, Md. – Responding to growing demands for multi-vendor and multi-instrument compatibility, Shimadzu’s GC-2010 Plus and GC-2014, which feature high-precision analysis, excellent peak reproducibility and the world’s highest sensitivity levels, can now be controlled in an Empower environment. In conjunction with an LC driver, this development will enable users to control Shimadzu’s LC and GC systems and integrate data from multiple chromatographs using a single networked solution.

With Empower, users can achieve seamless control of GC-2010 Plus and GC-2014 units in their laboratories for functions ranging from control panel and report output to audit trails. Users can set Shimadzu GC parameters through the instrument method editing window and save them as an instrument method. Because separate editing windows are available for each device, even first-time users can set GC unit parameters easily.

The control panel displayed in Empower’s sample analysis window includes Shimadzu GC unit functions such as ON/OFF, and switching the carrier gas or detector gas. Additionally, the control panel features a monitor function the can confirm the flow rate and pressure of the carrier gas, as well as verify temperatures of the sample injection port, column oven and detector. A system check function displays the operating status of consumables, which helps to monitor the GC’s operating status during analyses and routine inspections.

Empower acquires all detector signals digitally. No SAT/IN™ or other analog/digital converter is needed. During analyses, the software stores gas pressures, column oven temperatures and other instrument status information as channel data. Current Empower users can migrate easily to these new drivers with little or no training.
