Hallbergmoos, Germany — Xpedite Diagnostics GmbH today announces the commercial launch of SwiftXtractor™ SL, the company’s first benchtop instrument for automated nucleic acid extraction from large sample volumes. The system accepts inputs from 200 µL up to 40 mL and delivers purified DNA and RNA in eluates as low as 50 µL, fully automated, in a single run, using standard laboratory tubes.

SwiftXtractor SL is built around two complementary Xpedite technologies: SwiftX™ capture technology, which concentrates target cells, viruses, and microorganisms from large sample volumes using functionalized microparticles; and SwiftX™ reverse purification chemistry, which selectively removes inhibitors and matrix components while nucleic acids remain in solution. The instrument automates the complete workflow, from cell and virus capture and lysis through purification and elution, with minimal hands-on time. Beyond that and following an open platform philosophy, SwiftXtractor users will be able to implement their own automation protocols including those for classical methods such as silica-chaotrope purification.

Laboratories performing wastewater-based epidemiology, bloodstream pathogen detection, urine-based STI screening, and other large-volume applications have historically relied on manual pre-analytical concentration steps before automated extraction. SwiftXtractor™ SL is designed to reduce or eliminate these preparatory workflows, enabling direct processing of large sample volumes in a compact, portable format.

At launch, the platform is delivered with pre-installed protocols for wastewater surveillance (up to 40 mL), genomic DNA isolation from whole blood, and STI screening from urine (up to 10 mL), with additional applications including bloodstream pathogen detection and cell-free DNA extraction.
