Company Announcements

Helicos BioSciences licensed its intellectual property to Complete Genomics, Fluidigm, Illumina and Life Technologies.

In September, Life Technologies introduced the Ion AmpliSeq Exome Certified Service Provider program.

Life Technologies named TriCore Reference Laboratories a regional Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Center of Excellence.

The NIH National Human Genome Research Institute awarded a research consortium consisting of Genia Technologies, Columbia University and Harvard University a three-year, $5.25 million “Revolutionary Genome Sequencing Technologies—The $1,000 Genome” grant. Genia’s NanoTag sequencing technology combines Genia’s standard complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor integrated circuit, Columbia’s Tag-based sequencing chemistry and Harvard’s nanopore protein constructs.

Product Introductions

Bina launched a Whole Exome application, with analysis in as little as 30 minutes and a pay-as-you-go On-Demand offering.

Epigentek launched in August the EpiNext Post-Bisulfite DNA Library Preparation Kit for whole genome bisulfite sequencing. It allows bisulfite-treated DNA to be directly used for ligation, eliminating the possibility of breaking adapter-ligated fragments.

DNAnexus launched a specialized platform as a service that enables clinical testing labs to efficiently move their NGS analysis pipelines into the cloud using their own algorithms alongside industry recognized tools.

Station X released in September the GenePool cloud-based software application for the management, analysis and communication of genomic and clinical information, including expression comparison and survival analysis.

Centrillion Biosciences introduced the mSeq cloud- and mobile-based application that allows users to determine coverage in specific genes and genomic regions for custom target and exome sequencing projects.

In September, NuGEN Technologies launched the Ovation Human FFPE RNA-Seq Multiplex System, which provides an end-to-end solution for strand-specific RNA-Seq library construction.

Sales/Orders of Note

Illumina announced in September a three-year agreement to supply Natera with the HiSeq 2500 sequencing system and associated consumables for performing the non-invasive prenatal test Panorama.

In September, Life Technologies announced that iGenomics, a Chinese-based diagnostics service company, purchased 17 Ion Proton sequencers and plans to add 15 more instruments by year end. The company also signed a licensing and supply agreement with Life.
