Chile’s Senate has approved the creation of the Environmental Ministry, which will be voted on by the parliament for final approval. The Ministry would consist of the Superintendent of Environmental Regulation for environmental monitoring and enforcement, and the Environmental Evaluation Services, which would conduct environmental impact studies. The legislation also establishes an environmental court that will review environmental decisions. The Environmental National Commission, an environmental advocacy organization, called the creation of the Ministry the country’s most significant environmental advancement.
