Agilent Acquires Web-Based Lab Management Software Firm

Santa Clara, CA and Boston, MA 6/27/16—Agilent Technologies has agreed to acquire substantially all the assets of iLab Solutions for an undisclosed amount. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, with close to 70 employees, iLab provides lab management services to universities, research hospitals and independent institutes. iLab offerings consist of web-based core facility management services, such as request management, equipment reservation and project tracking. “Agilent is a one-stop partner to equip, manage and serve our customers’ entire laboratory,” commented Mark Doak, president of Agilent CrossLab Group. “Our acquisition of iLab further expands our offerings portfolio in a space we previously did not have a presence in.” The acquisition is expected to close in early August, and all iLab employees will be offered positions with Agilent.

The acquisition adds tools and expertise for lab software and management that broaden CrossLab Group’s lab management capabilities and increases Agilent’s exposure to the academic market. Although iLab is currently focused on academic and nonprofit labs, Agilent stated that the model is applicable to enterprise accounts, such as the pharmaceuticals industry.
