Jena, Germany 4/30/09—Analytik Jena AG will acquire Biometra GmbH from Whatman GmbH, which is owned by GE Healthcare, in an all-cash transaction. Further financial details were not disclosed. Biometra develops and provides products for thermocycling, electrophoresis, blotting, gel imaging and hybridization. The company’s sales in recent years have been steady at around €9.0 million ($13.2 million = €0.68 = $1) with good profitability. Analytik Jena stated that the acquisition improves its offerings for DNA analysis and its distribution network. The transaction will close on May 11. Biometra has 55 employees.
