DECTRIS signed a frame contract in June for the delivery of detectors for Shimadzu’s XRD systems.
Thermo Fisher Scientific announced in August that its Persistent Organic Pollutants Center of Excellence and the UK’s University of Birmingham will host research related to an EU grant for studying the sources and pathways of brominated–flame-retardant pollution.
In November, Eurocontrol Technics entered into a letter of intent to acquire the assets of Austin AI, which has distributed Eurocontrol’s Xenemetrix products in Asia and the US since 2012, for stock and purchase warrants. Austin is forecast to have 2015 sales of $2 million.

Teledyne Tekmar introduced the Lotix TOC Combustion analyzer for measuring carbon content in aqueous matrices down to the ppb level.
Mettler-Toledo Thornton released the 405TOC Portable Total Organic Carbon Analyzer for pure-water–treatment applications.
Agilent Technologies introduced the Agilent 5100 ICP-OES in July, available in three configurations. It requires one sequential measurement per sample and uses less gas than other systems.
Analytik Jena released a new generation of auto samplers for its AA spectroscopy products and its multi N/C series of TOC analyzers.
Xenocs launched in August the Nano-inXider vertical SAXS/WAXS system for nanostructure characterization, emphasizing ease of use and a smaller footprint.
Rigaku introduced the XtaLAB PRO Series of single-crystal XRD hybrid pixel-array-detector–based systems, enabling shutterless data collection. It features the DECTRIS PILATUS 200K detector.
Hitachi High-Technologies launched the PS3500DDII sequential ICP-OES, featuring a spectral resolution of 0.003 nm.
In September, Olympus launched the affordable DELTA Element handheld XRF analyzer, optimized for scrap-metal sorting, positive material identification (PMI), alloy QA/QC and precious-metal analysis.
Oxford Instruments introduced the new X-MET8000 handheld XRF analyzer for PMI, featuring a comprehensive set of grade libraries.
FOSS introduced the Dumatec 8000 for nitrogen/protein analysis. It can deliver results in three minutes.
In October, Shimadzu launched the ICPE-9810 and ICPE-9820 simultaneous ICP-atomic emissions spectrometers, which can switch measurements automatically between high-sensitivity axial-view and high-accuracy radial-view modes.
In November, PANalytical launched the Epsilon 1 XRF analyzer for the analysis of residual catalysts in pharmaceutical materials.
