PerkinElmer opened a customer center in Krakow, Poland.
Analytik Jena was among the supporters of an endowed professorship in fiber optics awarded to Markus Schmidt at Germany’s University of Jena.
HORIBA inaugurated in November 2012 its research and technology center at France’s Saclay Technopole. The facility, which is 7,500 square feet with the ability to expand, is home to HORIBA Europe’s headquarters.
In December 2012, MOCON expanded its Board from six to eight members, adding Bradley D. Goskowicz, CEO of Microbiologics, and David J. Ward, vice president of Marketing and Clinical Site Development at Myocor.

Oxford Instruments announced in December 2012 the opening of a subsidiary in Mumbai, India. The subsidiary has a demonstration lab for industrial analysis. The company had 25% sales growth in the country in fiscal 2012.
Pall named Mark Goldstein, COO of Actuant, and Bret Wise, chairman and CEO of DENTSPLY International, to its Board in December 2012, replacing Daniel J. Carroll, Jr. and Dr. Edward L. Snyder.
Xylem named PerkinElmer Chairman, President and CEO Robert F. Friel to its Board in December 2012.
JEOL Scientific and Measurement Instruments sales for fiscal 2012 ending March 31, 2012, grew 0.1% to ¥53,875.0 million ($675.3 million) to make up 65% of company sales (see IBO 12/15/12). The company reduced its workforce by 500 and integrated five subsidiaries and affiliates.
AMETEK named David A. Zapico executive vice president and COO, effective January 1. Most recently, he was president of the Electronic Instrument Group.
For the fiscal year ending September 30, 2012, Analytik Jena’s sales grew 8.9% to €94.0 million ($130.6 million) (see IBO 12/31/12). Analytical Instrument revenue grew 12.8% to account for 64% of sales due to strong demand for X-ray fluorescence systems in Japan. Life Science sales slipped 0.4% to make up 30% of sales, including a 7% decline in sales from subsidiaries, primarily CyBio. Optics sales rose 20.8%. Sales to Germany improved 3.6% to make up 27% of sales, while sales to other European countries declined 14.5% to account for 21%. Sales to Asia, America and Rest of the World grew 30.8%, 13.4% and 7.8% to represent 42%, 7% and 3% of sales, respectively.
The US Federal Trade Commission approved the settlement involving Corning’s acquisition of Becton Dickinson’s Discovery Labware unit (see IBO 10/31/12).
