Analytik Jena AG opened a London, UK, office.
Fiscal 2008 revenues for Analytik Jena AG rose 3.0% to €69.3 million ($92.4 million) (see IBO 1/15/08). Instrument sales increased 16.2% to €43.1 million ($57.5 million). By segment, Analytical Solutions grew 13.3% to 47% of total sales, Bio Solutions increased 9.9% to 5%, Optical Solutions rose 35.1% to 11% and Project Solutions declined 13.2% to 38%. German sales rose 3.3% to 23% of company sales, other European sales rose 9.6% to 47%, American sales grew 82.0% to 6%, Asian sales increased 4.1% to 18%, and Rest of World sales fell 42.0% to 7% of total sales.
Half-year fiscal 2008 revenues for Halma’s Health and Analysis business rose 11.7% to £62.7 million ($125.4 million) and profits increased 7.4% to £12.0 million ($23.9 million) (see IBO 11/30/07).
GE Healthcare and Novavax entered into a collaboration to develop and market a pandemic influenza vaccine manufacturing solution.
Under a strategic alliance, Novozymes will manufacture new, animal-free culture supplements for biopharmaceutical manufacturing that will be sold by Millipore under the brand name CellPrime.

Revenues for MDS Analytical Technologies for the fourth quarter ending October 2007 rose 92% to $119 million, or 2% on an organic basis (see IBO 12/15/07).
Sciex sales totaled $65 million as MS end-user revenue grew 4% and adjusted EBITDA rose 40% to $21 million. Molecular Devices sales totaled $54 million with adjusted EBITDA of $11 million.

In December 2007, Quantum Design, a provider of advanced technology cryogenic systems and instruments, acquired a majority in LOT-Oriel Holding AG, a German-based instrument and photonics distributor with 120 employees. LOT-Oriel was Quantum Design’s exclusive distributor for Europe and the Near East.
Anthony R. Muller, former CFO of JDS Uniphase, announced he will retire from the Board of Symyx Technologies in early 2008.
Shimadzu announced that it aims to increase its Russian sales 50% to ¥4.5 billion ($529.9 million) by the fiscal year ending March 2011. The company plans to increase the number of employees in the country from 30 in 2007 to 45 in 2010.
