BIO Deutschland’s annual survey of German biotechnology companies, which involved 143 companies in December 2012, found 44% of respondents plan to increase R&D spending this year, compared with 40% in last year’s survey. However, 54% plan to keep R&D spending the same, compared with 56% a year ago. Although 95% indicate their current business situation is satisfactory, the percentage that expect their future business situation to be more positive was 44% this year, down from 48% last year. Also down was the percentage of respondents who intend to hire more employees this year, falling to 55% from nearly 60% a year ago.
