Halma Acquires Fiberguide

According to Halma, the acquisition will immediately enhance earnings. Halma’s Photonics business includes Ocean Optics, Labsphere and Palintest. The acquisition should complement the Ocean Optics and Labsphere businesses, which both offer fiber-optic based spectrometers and components for laboratory, field and online applications.

Amersham, UK 9/8/08—The Photonics business of Halma’s Health and Analysis sector has acquired Fiberguide Industries for $14.5 million in cash and additional payouts based on targets. Based in Stirling, New Jersey, Halma designs and manufactures optical fiber cables and assembles, primarily custom-designed products for OEMs. Approximately half of the company’s revenues are from medical/biomedical, spectroscopic and analytical instrument applications. Fiberguide’s 2007 revenues were $10.7 million and its operating profit was $1.8 million. “There are excellent opportunities for Fiberguide to develop strongly within Halma—particularly through technical collaboration and growth in international markets which currently represent less than 5% of Fiberguide’s revenues,” stated Halma’s Chief Executive Andrew Williams.
