IDEX Buys ERC

The acquisition fits with the other HPLC component and accessory businesses that make up IDEX’s Health and Science Technologies segment, including Rheodyne and Upchurch Scientific. Like ERC, IDEX’s Systec business also offers degassers. ERC is based in Kawaguchi, Japan.

Lake Forest, IL 4/30/12—Health and science technologies company IDEX has acquired ERC from MH Capital Partners for ¥1.65 billion ($21 million = ¥80.23 = $1) in cash. ERC manufactures gas liquid separations and detection solutions for the life science, analytical instrumentation and clinical chemistry markets, including in-line membrane vacuum-degassing solutions, refractive index detectors and ozone-generation systems.

Japan-based ERC has annual revenues of ¥2.14 billion ($27 million). “ERC provides IDEX with access to key analytical instrumentation customers, a strong manufacturing base in Japan, vital products for clinical diagnostic applications and a gateway to the burgeoning instrumentation markets of Asia,” said IDEX Chairman and CEO Andrew Silvernail. “We look forward to significant collaboration in the critical areas of new product design, global sourcing and manufacturing, as we realize strategic account management and operating synergies.” ERC will become part of IDEX’s Health and Science Technologies segment. The acquisition is expected to be accretive to IDEX earnings within the first full year following the acquisition.
