The Indian government has announced that Ayruveda, Siddha and Unani drugs will be required to undergo testing similar to that required of modern medicines prior to approval. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization recently issued guidelines addressing clinical trial practices for traditional medicines. Makers of traditional medicine argue that because the guidelines were adapted from the testing regime for modern medicines, they are inadequate. Changes to the guidelines have not been finalized yet.
