In September, VWR extended its global distribution agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific.
In December, Stanley L. Haas, senior vice president and president of Asia Pacific at VWR, resigned.
BioSpectrum Asia reported in September that Merck Millipore India named Toshvin Analytical a strategic channel partner for the sales and service of lab water purification systems in Western and Central India.
EMD Millipore announced in October that China’s Beijing Higher Court affirmed a lower court decision against RephiLe Bioscience for copying and selling purification cartridges for lab water systems that infringed its patents. The decision upheld the permanent injunction against RephiLe making, selling and offering to sell the infringing products and confirmed the award of damages set by the lower court.
In October, Verder’s Scientific Division acquired Gero Hochtemperaturöfen, a manufacture of vacuum furnaces and furnaces under special atmosphere that are used in industrial processes and for research. GERO has annual sales of €7 million ($9 million) and 35 employees.
Avantor Performance Materials named Jai Murphy, PhD, vice president and business manager, Global Pharmaceuticals, in October. He previously held positions at Beckman Coulter and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
In November, Environment Express announced the acquisition of Daniels Scientific, a supplier of certified environmental sample collection containers.
Honeywell Burdick & Jackson named Nurnberg Scientific a distributor for Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
Boval and Argenta agreed to exclusively distribute Chata Biosystems’ premixed dissolution media and buffers in Mexico through Argenta’s Tecrom subsidiary.
Johnson Matthey Research Chemicals revenue grew 4% to £41 million ($63 million) for the half year ending September 30. Operating profit declined. New facilities were opened in Shanghai, China, and the US West Coast.
In December, Scientific Industries announced the proposed acquisition of Fulcrum’s lab and pharmacy balance and digital scale business for $1.7 million.
Product Introductions
Mettler-Toledo released in October a new line of Excellence Analytical Balances, which check that weighing results are not influenced by electrostatic charge.
In November, Agilent Technologies introduced the 850-DS Dissolution Sampling Station for centralizing lab workflow of sample transfer, filtration and collection.
In December, Thermo Fisher Scientific launched an enhanced line of general purpose centrifuges, featuring the TX-1000 roto, which employs a 4 L capacity in a 3 L footprint. The new MicroClick 30 x 2 rotor offers a 30-place capacity for microtube and nucleic acid spin columns.
