WHEATON named Wayne Brinster president in October 2012, succeeding Stephen R. Drozdow, who remains CEO. Previously, Mr. Brinster was vice president and general manager of Synthon Pharmaceuticals.

Kuhner Shaker opened a US office and warehouse in San Carlos, California, in November 2012.

Azbil Group acquired a 80% stake in Telstar in November 2012, forming a Life Science Engineering business. Telstar had 2011 sales of €108 million ($150 million).

In December 2012, Scharlau Science acquired distribution company Bibby Scientific Italy from Nova Capital Management. Bibby Scientific Italy has annual sales of €2.8 million ($3.6 million) and 12 employees.

Patrick L. McCrory resigned from Kewaunee Scientific’s Board in January. The company’s number of Board members has been decreased from seven to six.

Techcomp Europe announced an agreement to distribute Hitachi Koki’s ultracentrifuges and high-speed refrigerated centrifuges in Western Europe.

Porvair announced that Seal Analytical sales for the fiscal year ending November 30, 2012, grew 13%, with weakness in Western Europe offset by US demand.

SP Industries appointed Executive Vice President Bill Downs as CEO and Michael Bonner, formerly with Quickie Manufacturing, as CFO in January.

ChromaDex entered into an agreement in February to distribute LGC Standards’ LoGiCal forensics and clinical reference standards and pharmaceutical impurities standards in the US.

Product Introductions

Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Thermo Scientific Sorvall LYNX superspeed centrifuge series, featuring a top speed of 100,000 xg and sample processing from 50 mL conical tubes and microplates to 1 L bottles.

Grant Instruments launched 12 products in November 2012 for the life sciences, including three new bio-centrifuges and three new dry block heating systems.

Parker Hannifin released the H2PME-DP series of high pressure hydrogen generators. A single generator can support up to 20 instruments with fuel and carrier gas.

Sartorius introduced the new Secura lab balance for regulated applications, featuring nine models and automatic monitoring of ambient conditions.

The Biotechnology Industry Organization announced in October 2012 an over five-year extension of its agreement with VWR International.

Premier healthcare alliance awarded agreements for specialty distribution—lab and research products to Cardinal Health, Fisher Healthcare, Infolab and Laboratory Supply Company.
